       1) THE EXORCIST(1973)

Exorcist

The exorcist deals with the demonic possession of a 12 year old girl and her mothers attempt to win her back through exorcism conducted by two priests. It is directed by William Friedkin adopted from William Blatty’s novel under same name. Though it is one of the most successful horror film in both commercial and creative sectors with 10 academy nominations it suffered a lot during production with incidents like toddler son of one of the main actors getting hurt which attracted claims that the set was cursed. This Iconic movie is inspired by the 1949 exorcism of Roland Doe with the exorcism being only one of the three accepted by the church.

You won’t forget the image of the child’s possessed face, or her unnatural body positions, including the famous revolving head scene. The claustrophobic nature of the setting – an ordinary family home – adds to the creepiness of the situation. It also helps that the acting is superb. Expect to be scared silly by this creepy horror flick, which has been making audiences afraid to sleep alone for more than forty years.

2) POLTERGEIST(1982)

horror movies poltergeist

It is the first movie in the original trilogy of Poltergeist series directed by Steven Spielberg. It revolves around the member of the Freeling family, who are stalked and terrorized by a group ghosts that are attracted to the youngest daughter Carol Anne. This film series is also famous for bearing the rumored ‘POLTERGEIST curse’ attached to the trilogy and its crew derived from lot of mishappenings occurring to the actors as well as the death of five cast members including 12 year old  who played Carol Anne(the girl who was attacked in the movie) and the elder daughter Dana who was murdered by her boyfriend, fueled by the fact real skeletons were used in the sets as props.

You might not think that a movie where the evil is completely faceless could be so terrifying, but in reality that only adds to the scare factor. You are sure to share in the family’s fear as ordinary household objects start to turn against them. Just make sure you have company when you watch this movie. Watch it alone, and even the normal environment of your home could start to creep you out.

Following the example set by the ring this movie is also a Japanese remake and just like the ring this film also delivers big time and has been made into a successful franchise with 3 more parts.

Based in Japan a sense of mystery and isolation makes the events of the movie even more terrifying. Flick is impressive with extremely detailed deaths clenched by the revengeful spirits that will not leave soon.
